Summary
Android asks you about each permission the first time D+ needs it. None is required to use the app: if you deny one, only the feature that depends on it stops working.
| Permission | What for | If you deny it |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Map of nearby businesses and stamp fraud prevention. | The map centers on San Salvador and stamps are recorded without location. |
| Camera | Scanning the business's QR code. | You can type the 8-digit code instead. |
| Notifications | Letting you know when you're one stamp away and sending D+ news. | You get no alerts; everything else works the same. |
Location (approximate and precise)
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
- On the map: to show businesses with promotions near you. Requested when you open the map.
- When scanning a code: we store the approximate location at the time of the scan with the stamp, so suspicious stamps (for example, a code used far from the business) can be reviewed and fake stamps prevented.
- When registering a business: if you tap “Use my current location”, we use it to place your business on the map.
Camera
CAMERA
Used only on the Scan code screen to read the QR code the business shows you. The camera image is processed on your phone at that moment: we never take, store or send photos or video.
Notifications
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13 or later)
Requested after you sign in. We use it to let you know when you're one stamp away from completing a card and for important service notices. We do not send third-party advertising.
Technical permissions (no approval needed)
| Permission | What for |
|---|---|
| INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Connecting securely (HTTPS) to our server to sync your cards and checking whether you're online. |
| com.google.android.c2dm.permission.RECEIVE, WAKE_LOCK | Receiving push notifications through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging. |
| VIBRATE | Vibrating when a notification arrives and for haptic feedback in the app. |
What we don't ask for
D+ does not access your contacts, photos or files, microphone, calls, SMS, calendar or background location. To choose a business card background, the app uses the system file picker, which only gives us the image you pick.
How to revoke a permission
- Open Android Settings.
- Go to Apps → D+ → Permissions.
- Set the permission to “Don't allow”. You can turn it back on at any time.
